Corrected "write" return to FUSE. Moved ascii and binary size checks upstream to ow_read which cleans up device driver code. Simplified array input functions.

fatal error if fuse is missing), pthread detection code better (also tries
to use various CC's "threadsafe" generating code), and lowered required
autoconf version.
